Fulgurite tends to have an irregular shape, making measurements
of dimensions somewhat arbitrary.
Instead, I have photographed them on a background with about a 3/4"
square grid. Yellow label is 1.5 x
2" wide.
Horizontally, four pink blocks is about 3". For close-up detail
of grain, see Series D photos.
Orange is lichen on the outside. Please ask if you need more information
on any item.

Fulgurite ODDITIES-1
$48
Beautiful, wonderful, weird – Wow!
This is definitely one of the nicest specimens in the group.
A major fulgurite branch (an inch across) passed between two
larger rocks, fusing onto them but becoming distorted in the
process. The rocks are irregular shapes, and make up much
of two of the external sides of the fulgurite. One rock still
shows the mottled pink of the original granite parent material,
the other has been altered to the fulgurite-grey, with charring
evident.
The fulgurite itself has a wonderful huge bubble at one end,
air passes through it out a small branch stub. The other end
has positively great green glass. There are various other
smaller bubbles, samples of other glass colors, small rock
fragments, and great charring.
Overall size is about 2" x 1" |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-2
$18
A curious, fine-grained, light-weight, rather porous branch
end termination. It has a bulbous contorted shape. Some white
and clear glasses, and moderate bubbles are exposed at the
open end. A few other bubbles breach the outer surface of
the shell.
Approximately 2" x1" , but contorted. |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-4

WOW – a real winner! The interior is beautifully glassed
in a rich black. The exposed bubbles are large and you can
actually see through the length of the fulgurite in a single
long narrow tube. Has a major branch stub and several minor
stubs or bubbles opening into the interior. Nice external
charring and a good selection of rock fragments on the shell.
This is a super specimen for display, but not tough enough
to be a hand-around sample for a class.
Approximately 2" x .75" . |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-6

The electrical charge from the lightning strike was clearly
having difficulty making a decision about which way to go
here! These aren’t really branches, but more like exploratory
forays and direction changes. White, clear and black glass
and a good bubble in the exposed end, with nice salt-n-pepper
rock fragments on the outside there. The far end is a very
fine grained uniform grey – we believe this is what
happened when the charge enters a pocket of higher organic
matter.
About 1.25" x 1" |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-7
$18
Lovely small specimen of a fulgurite branch fused onto a
rock, which still shows some of the pink pre-strike color.
The fulgurite itself is the typical grey color, has a nice
cylindrical shape, bubble in one end and small rock fragments
embedded in the outside.
The fulgurite is about .75" x .25" .
The rock it is fused to is about .75" x .25" |
 |
Fulgurite ODDITIES-8

A precious little fork where one branch splits into seven
smaller branches. Beautiful white and green glass. A perfect
bubble, nice exterior charring andgood included pebble.
About 1.5" x 1" |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-9

An interesting and unusual fork where one branch splits into
five smaller branches. The photo is taken with it sitting
on the fat main branch. Nice white and black glasses and various
bubbles.
About 1" x 1" |

Fulgurite ODDITIES-10
$12
This is a large rock of the pinkish granite parent material
with a small split-open (not a full round) fulgurite branch
section fused to part of it. You can see white- and black-glass
lined bubbles on the inside of the fulgurite and some of the
external grey shell. The main rock will probably wash up a
bit brighter if you want.
The fulgurite is about .75" x .25" .
The rock it is fused to is about 4" x 2" x 1" |
 |
Fulgurite ODDITIES-12
$15
This is a large rock of the dark pinkish granite parent
material with a small split-open (not a full round in places)
fulgurite branch section fused to part of it. You can see
good white, clear, and green glass on the inside of the fulgurite
and some of the external grey shell. The main rock shows some
great charring and a couple faint and narrow fulgurite traces
leading out from the main piece.
The fulgurite is about 1.25" x .25" .
The rock it is fused to is about 3" x 2" x 1" |
 |
Fulgurite ODDITIES-13
$18
This is a neat one! A short section of complete hollow-tube
fulgurite fused to a large absolutely charred-black rock.
You can see through the complete fulgurite tube from one end
to the other. It has nice clear glass and a thin outer shell.
There is a second, much smaller, but similar fulgurite tube
fused to another part of the rock.
The larger fulgurite is about 1/2" x 1/3" .
The rock it is fused to is about 2.5 x 2.5" x 1" |
 |
Fulgurite ODDITIES-14
$42
A really perfect example of a fulgurite (in grey) fused
to a pink parent-material granite rock. The contact zone is
charred black. The fulgurite is a perfect cylinder and it
is firmly attached to the rock. Nice clear and white glasses
and moderate bubbles exposed at either end. The exterior shell
has a good variety of smaller rock fragments bristling out
from it. The rock also has another smaller fulgurite glass
trace across it.
The fulgurite is about 1.75" x .5" .
The rock it is fused to is about 3" x 1.5" x 1.5" |
