Condition : Unless otherwise noted, these maps are in good to very good, lightly used condition, are folded, and are in a map pocket or envelope. They may have an owner's name, stamps, or filing-related words on the envelope and/or map margins. The envelopes may have light soil and bumped edges in addition to the owner's marks. Please ask if you need more information. |

USGS GQ SERIES MAPS : Geological Quadrangle series maps
Maps are in full color and are folded. There is a large section of text on the sheet in addition to the color geologic map. If there are two dates for a single listing, the second date is a reprint date. Typically in an envelope or map pocket.
Maps listed as "USGS Folio Map" are flat, printed on heavier paper, with an attached and facing page of explanatory and supplementary text. They are one very large sheet, folded in half, with color map on one side and text on the other side, and with handsome title page on back side forming a cover of sorts. "Folio" maps may need to be shipped in a separate container from other publications you order. PLEASE NOTE : These are different from USGS FOLIOS.
The Geologic Quadrangle (GQ) Series has more than 1,700 multicolor maps that show the bedrock, surficial, or engineering geology of selected 7.5- or 15-minute quadrangles in the United States. The series, begun in 1949, is a continuation of the earlier Folios of the Geologic Atlas of the United States (1894 to 1945).
Each map is accompanied by an explanatory text printed
on the map margin or occasionally as a separate pamphlet. Some
maps include cross sections for clarity and to show relations
at depth; some contain columnar sections describing stratigraphy;
some maps show structure contours. Sheet size and projection depend
on the base map on which the geology is plotted. The most common
scale is 1:24,000; some are at 1:31 ,680, 1:62,500, or 1:63,360
(Alaska).
